Literacy Coach
What is a Literacy Coach?
Buckner Elementary has a literacy coach to provide support for both parents, teachers, and students of the Buckner school community. While most of my time is spent in classrooms modeling and co-teaching with the classroom teachers, I also conduct parent and teacher trainings, host parent book clubs/discussions, and create outreach workshops such as Literacy Night, Ethical Conferring Partners, and How to Read with Students.

I am absolutely thrilled to be the literacy coach at Buckner Elementary and look forward to working with each and every one of your children. While I am a native of Louisiville, I am a graduate of Indiana University twice over. I attended the Bloomington campus for my undergraduate degree in elementary education with a minor in reading and writing. I returned to the Hoosier state to attend IUS and earn my master's degree in elementary education with a concentration in literacy. I spent the first three years of my career in education at St. Patrick School in Louisville before coming to Oldham County to teach at Goshen Elementary in 1999. To nurture my passion for teaching reading I participated in the Kentucky Reading Project and have attended numerous professional workshops taught by some of the literacy "greats"! In 2002, I earned my National Board Certification (and renewed in 2011) and continued to teach at Goshen until Harmony Elementary opened. Two years later I moved to this position at Buckner in 2007. Since working at Buckner I have continued to work to stay abreast of the latest in literacy and share that information with others. We have an amazing staff here and collaborating with them to impact student learning is truly a blessing.
I am married and my husband, Jesse, teaches World History at Ballard High School. We have two children, Keaton (12) and Carson Ann (10). When I am not spending time with my family or working, I enjoy taking walks, reading, and writing! Go figure. :)
